One morning my son woke up with the statement that he was going to listen to me all day. Of course, two hours later he was fighting with his sister and ignoring everything I was saying. I asked, ‘What happened, I thought you were going to listen today?’
‘I ran out of batteries’, was the response I got.
Now when Big Boy is hitting, snatching toys off his sister or is about to chuck a tantrum (yes, 4-year-olds still do that sometimes), I ‘change his batteries’. This involves a lot of tickling and usually ends in laughter and a switch from whatever he was doing before that.
I am grateful that I have found this easy, playful and effective technique to stop challenging behaviour.

LOL we once tricked our older son into thinking he had batteries …he worked a charm for ages. We both were in on it.

That is adorable. Love it.
Ellie told me I needed to turn the water off as the batteries were running out. I love how they see things.
