Last week I joined a free scrapbooking event called Creative Crop at Big Picture Classes. There were 12 creative challenges and the one that I thought my kids will enjoy the most was Challenge #4: Use a twine technique on your layout! We got all excited about making butterflies from some old magazines and cotton threads.
Once we had enough butterflies, I started wondering what to do with the rest of the layout. Butterflies remind me of light, colours and summer. And of doing something brave (‘butterflies in the stomach’). But scrapbooking is about preserving memories, right? So I decided to go with a family holiday in Singapore. My son was about 9 months old, we had the best time and visited a butterfly park. So off we went to decorate our page.
Knowing that the Creative Crop is coming, I could have printed out a few photos to use. But I didn’t. So we had to finish our first ever scrapbooking page digitally. The kids helped me choose the photos, I stuck them on the page.

I’ll be going back and tackling some of the other challenges soon!

What joy you had making this! That is what creativity is all about!

Love the use of twine/wool to lay out a theme word – such a cute way to add texture to your page.

I’m not so sure it was such a great idea, we now have butterflies EVERYWHERE!
That’s so pretty! My daughter has a blank scrapbook, and maybe it’s time she and I got things started. I will borrow your “butterflies” idea, if you don’t mind
thanks

Those butterflies are so cute, you could make them out of photos too.
That’s such a great idea, especially when you are using them for scrapbooking. Thanks!
